    Gov. Nathan Deal announced $35 million in funding for an expansion of the Hull McKnight Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center in Augusta. The second facility will serve as an incubator hub for technology startups as well as a training space for the state’s cybersecurity initiatives and workforce development programs.

  • Georgia Banks’ Earnings up 15% in Third Quarter

    Georgia’s 178 FDIC-insured financial institutions earned $889.3 million during the third quarter of this year, up 15.2 percent over the same period in 2016. For the first nine months of the year, cumulative earnings were $2.5 billion, increasing by 10.3 percent over the same nine-month period in 2016.

Brooks, executive director of the Walker County Development Authority, already was looking for a site to locate a new industry when he attended a financing course offered by the University of Georgia's Carl Vinson Institute of Government. In the class he learned he could use money from a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax to purchase land and develop it.
