Help United Way of the CSRA Stuff the Bus for Local Students In Need

Staff Report

Thursday, July 7th, 2022

As the CSRA gears up for a new school year, United Way of the CSRA is helping ease the burden of purchasing basic school supplies for families in need. We know that setting up students for success starts with adequate back to school supplies, and this year we’re making it even easier to participate with an advanced drop-off location at WJBF and three Stuff the Bus collection drive events.

Events include:
- Sunday, July 17th at SRP Park
- Friday, July 22nd at the Kroc Center
- Saturday, July 23rd at the Waynesboro Walmart

A list of the most-requested school supplies can be found at www.uwcsra.org/stuff-the-bus

“Our goal is to maximize student learning this year and every year, and we’re proud to step in once again to help families in need,” says Brittany Burnett, President and CEO of United Way of the CSRA.

The first Stuff the Bus event at SRP Park on Sunday, July 17th is in partnership with SRP Federal Credit Union and WOW! Internet, Cable & Phone. Gates open at 4:00 p.m. and first pitch will be at 5:05 p.m. Fans that bring school supplies to the game will receive a voucher good for a free hot dog (one per person) as well as be entered to win a game-worn jersey given away at the game. Also, fans that would like to participate but cannot make to the Sunday, July 17th game, can drop off donations in advance at the box office, Hive Pro Shop at SRP Park, or any SRP Federal Credit Union located in the CSRA through July 15th.

The second event is at the Kroc Center on Friday, July 22nd from 8 a.m.
to 12 p.m. and all physical donations can be brought during that time. Donated school supplies will to be sorted, labeled, counted, and loaded onto buses by local volunteers and sent to school districts in Richmond, Columbia, and surrounding counties across the CSRA.

The third and final Stuff the Bus event will be held exclusively to benefit Burke County students in need this school year. Donations of school supplies and cash donations, which will be used to purchase additional supplies, will be collected at the Walmart in Waynesboro on Saturday, July 23rd from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Pride of Burke County, the Burke County High School Marching Band will perform to show their support and also join us to hear Mr. Robert Hunnicutt with 92.9, The Soul Mine who will be broadcasting live. Thanks to the Burke County Federal Programs, and Walmart, hot dogs and drinks will be provided for those who donate school supplies. A Burke County school bus will be parked in front of Walmart to “stuff” with supplies with help local volunteers.

Not able to drop off or attend any of these three events? United Way of the CSRA’s partnered with WJBF and their Giving Your Best partners, Piedmont Augusta and Solvay Specialty Polymers, to provide a drop-off location in advance. Visit WJBF NewsChannel6 & Television Park at 1336 Augusta West Parkway to drop-off school supplies prior to these events.
