On Thursday, May 25, representatives from the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce Foundation and Leadership Columbia County Class of 2016 awarded $500 scholarships to two local graduates, John Yarmosh and James Broome. Both of Evans High School, Yarmosh, a horticulture student, and Broome, a carpentry/construction student, plan to use the scholarships to continue their education at Augusta Technical College.

The one-time scholarships are a product of fundraising efforts of the Leadership Columbia County Class of 2016 and were given to encourage students to pursue technical education and endeavors locally. Recipients were chosen based on their contributions to the community, plans to engage in a technical career and recommendations from teachers and community members. The scholarships were distributed through the Columbia County Chamber Foundation, a 501c(3)  with a key focus on technical education and workforce development.

Those in attendance included Columbia County Schools CTAE Director Julie Kenny; Evans High School teachers, Doug Knox and Robert McCullough; representatives of the Chamber Foundation, Jordan Pierce of State Bank & Trust Company and Rachael Grant of ADP; Leadership Columbia County 2016 Class members, David Bullington of Queensborough National Bank & Trust Co., Ricky Mays of South State Bank, Damion Moses of State Bank & Trust Company; and friends and family of the recipients.
