Augusta to Welcome over 4,500 Visitors This Weekend

The Augusta Convention & Visitors Bureau, along with the Augusta Sports Council, are excited to welcome both the Georgia Republican Party and USA Cycling between June 1-4, 2017, bringing over 4,500 visitors to Augusta’s River Region.
 
An estimated 3,500 Georgia Republican Party members will return to the Augusta Convention Center to host their annual State Convention June 2-3. Events will be based in historic downtown Augusta, with visitor visibility highest on Saturday, June 3.
 
The USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships will take place in Downtown Augusta, Fort Gordon and the J. Strom Thurmond Dam in Columbia County. 1,000 cyclists are estimated to compete in the region for national championships in road, individual time trial and criterium disciplines. The four-day schedule is as follows: Thursday, June 1st, Time Trial at the Thurmond Lake Visitor Center, Friday, June 2nd - Saturday, June 3rd, Road Race at Fort Gordon and Sunday, June 4th Criterium in Downtown Augusta.
 
With an estimated economic impact of $3,620,502.78, downtown businesses should prepare for an exceptionally busy Saturday and Sunday.
