‘First Pint Pour’ Celebrates New Georgia Law September 1st

Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Tuesday, August 1st, 2017

On Sept. 1, Goodwill will join River Watch Brewery in celebrating the new Georgia law allowing brewers and distillers to sell their products directly to consumers with a ceremonial “First Pint Pour” event, a fundraiser benefiting Goodwill’s job training and career development services.

Goodwill established a partnership with River Watch Brewery in 2015 as part of the annual reNew&Brew event showcasing craft beer paired with food created by culinary students and instructors at the Helms College School of Hospitality.

Current Georgia law allows breweries to only offer small samples to customers who pay to tour their facilities. The long-sought new law eliminates the tour requirement and instead will allow breweries to sell directly to consumers for on- and on-premises consumption. Breweries around the state will celebrate Sept. 1 by pouring and serving their first legal pints of beer since the end of Prohibition.

To commemorate the historic occasion, Goodwill and River Watch Brewery are selling tickets to award one lucky winner the first pint poured at Augusta’s first modern brewery. In addition, the winner will receive a Chef’s Table dinner for eight at Edgar’s Grille, a $500 value, and two tickets to Goodwill’s 2018 reNew&Brew event. Each raffle ticket purchased will allow one person to receive $5 off the price of a tour and tasting on the day of the final tour and drawing on Aug. 31.

The drawing for the raffle will be held at 7 p.m. during River Watch Brewery’s final tour Thursday, Aug. 31, and the winner will be celebrated at the First Pint Pour at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1 at River Watch Brewery, 1175 Fourth St., Augusta, across from the Exchange Club Fairgrounds.

Tickets cost $10 and are available starting Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the brewery, and at Edgar’s Grille, 3165 Washington Road.
