The Salvation Army deploys two members of the Augusta Area Command to serve in Texas with the Salvation Army of Georgia's Emergency Disaster Services Team.

The Georgia team will arrive in Texas tomorrow and join an Incident Command Center stationed in Northwest Houston. The team is ready to assist with the largest mass feeding in United States history in the wake of the catastrophic flooding. Team members are also prepared to offer emotional and spiritual care to survivors and first responders.

As of yesterday, August 29, 20,471 meals, 16,975 snacks, and 21,439 drinks have been provided.

The team is ready to serve on the frontlines for at least two weeks. It is predicted that more Augusta team members will be deployed upon their return.

In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey, The Salvation Army is supporting one of the largest disaster relief operations in its history. To date, The Salvation Army has deployed 71 mobile feeding units to Texas.  Twenty-nine additional units are on standby to support the state of Louisiana if Harvey's rains cause severe flooding there and additional feeding units are on standby across the country to help if needed.
