BCBSGa Temporarily Adjusts Pharmacy Guidelines for Members Impacted by Hurricane Irma

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Wednesday, September 13th, 2017

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia announced temporary revised pharmacy guidelines to help members who are directly impacted by Hurricane Irma.

The revised guidelines will help BCBSGa members who are affected by the hurricane access needed prescription drugs by allowing them to have medications refilled at any pharmacy. These adjusted pharmacy guidelines are effective immediately and will remain in effect through October 11, 2017 (unless extended).

Additionally, the BCBSGa Foundation has partnered with the American Red Cross, as a $1 million-level member of the Annual Disaster Giving Program, to support impacted residents. All associate donations to both the American Red Cross and the company’s employee assistance fund will be matched by the BCBSGa Foundation at 100 percent.

The BCBSGa Foundation last week awarded a $75,000 grant to AmeriCares to support its Emergency Response Partner Program (AERP), which provides medicine, medical supplies and mental health services to those experiencing disaster-related trauma.

These adjusted pharmacy guidelines do not apply to Medicare Part D, Medicare Advantage and Federal Employees Health Benefits Program. Members of those plans have specific guidelines. For additional questions, members should call the phone number on the back of their membership card.a
