Family YMCA of Greater Augusta Storm Plans

Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Monday, September 11th, 2017

As the impending weather storm approaches the CSRA, the Family YMCA of Greater Augusta has planned to maintain a normal operating schedule unless circumstances significantly change as forecast.

All facilities will offer normal business hours, unless a power outage occurs, but will resume once power has been restored.

In keeping with the Y’s primary mission of community service for families, all facilities’ showers will be opened to storm crews and some evacuees who have been displaced from the storm regionally and locally.  This will be on a first come, first served basis as availability allows.

At this time, these facilities are not official designated evacuee sites, but will provide must needed refreshment and rest for the weary.

“Our team is ready to pitch in any way we can by providing access to our facilities for those hardworking emergency crews out there trying to maintain our power and keep us all safe, as well as those from out of town who might need to just rest. We also will provide a family-friendly environment with activities while we ride out the weather.  It is our privilege to serve and a blessing to have the resources to do so,” said Danny McConnell, President/CEO.
