Thursday, September 28th, 2017

The Student Workforce Committee, a sub-committee of the Business Education Advisory Council in
partnership with the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce, announces “Students 2 Work,” a new Workplace Learning Initiative.

Their mission is to provide 250 high school students with opportunities to gain valuable hands-on work experience in local businesses within the metro Augusta area. This committee serves as an advocate for public education by helping to ensure a superior and competitive future workforce. Students 2 Work will support the Richmond County School System’s vision: to create a world-class, globally competitive school system where all students will graduate and are college/career ready.

“Internships provide students with workplace experiences that are invaluable when deciding on what they want to do with their lives…Providing students with opportunities is satisfying as an employer when you think of the impact you are having on a young life,” says Steven Kendrick, Richmond County Tax Commissioner.

Kaitlyn Mills, a recent graduate of Davidson Fine Arts School, believes “Internships are important for students because it provides an opportunity to learn industry specific skills that may not be taught in a classroom. Internships for the upcoming generation of students provides an opportunity of transition from youth to adulthood.”

Interns will come to employers having completed a one-week training in which they will learn soft skills necessary to be successful in the workplace as well as having completed drug testing and a background check. If your business is interested in hosting an intern(s) or would like to learn more, please visit students2work.org and fill out the Hosting Company Agreement Form by November 10, 2017.
