Local Coffee Roaster Purchases Downtown Location

Staff Report From Augusta CEO

The owners of Buona Caffe Artisan Roasted Coffee, Augusta’s award-winning coffee roaster, have purchased the building at 520 Reynolds St. The building is across the street from the recently announced $93 million development of the city-owned riverfront depot property.

The building most recently housed Berry's Floral and Catering. In addition to roasting, showroom, training, and warehouse space, it also has a commercial kitchen.

Buona Caffe has reached capacity for production at its location at 1858 Central Ave. The purchase of the 8,400-square-foot building provides much-needed space for the growing business. The new location will serve as the space for roasting and inventory. It also will include a commercial espresso machine showroom, and room for professional training and coffee classes for the public. There are plans to open a small coffee bar shortly after opening.

“We needed to look for a space that was well beyond our current needs,” co-owner John Curry explained. “This new location gives us the opportunity to do much more to supply and support our wholesale customers.”

The Currys worked on finding a second location for nearly a year. “We’re thrilled to be part of the revitalization of downtown Augusta,” John Curry said.

Buona Caffe’s Central Avenue location will remain open and continue to offer great coffee drinks, food, retail coffee, and brewing equipment and supplies.

“The only change customers may notice at Central Avenue is a wider selection of brewing equipment,” co-owner Pat Curry said. “We’ve passed on a lot of specialty items we wanted to offer because we just didn’t have anywhere to store them.”

The Currys worked with local Augusta lenders Queensborough National Bank and Trust and CSRA Business Lending to take their business to the next level.

“Queensborough and CSRA Business Lending were phenomenal, and this wouldn’t have happened without them,” John Curry said. “They really took the time to learn about our business and our vision for the company and have supported us every step of the way.”
