Augusta Regional Airport Disaster Drill May 4th

Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018

The Augusta Regional Airport will conduct a live emergency drill the morning of Friday, May 4, 2018. Emergency response agencies from Richmond County, local hospitals, and other community organizations will join Airport personnel in practicing procedures needed in the event of an actual aircraft accident or emergency.

The Federal Aviation Administration requires airports to conduct live emergency drills every 3 years. The last such drill was conducted at the Augusta Regional Airport in 2015.

Air travelers and local residents should not be alarmed by the level of activity by emergency vehicles at the airport. Likewise, passer-bys need not be concerned by activities associated with the drill. There could also be some activity within the Airport Terminal Building. Public address system announcements will provide appropriate information. While these activities are included to enhance realism for emergency responders, they should not delay or inconvenience Airport patrons.

The drill has been planned so there will be no disruption of normal aircraft operations. Airline flight arrivals and departures will not be affect by the drill.

Airport officials anticipate the drill will be completed by 1:00 p.m. of the same day.
