Georgia Cyber Academy to Hold Commencement Ceremony June 2nd

Georgia Cyber Academy will celebrate the Class of 2018 at an in-person commencement ceremony on Saturday, June 2 at Infinite Energy Arena in Duluth. A full-time, online public charter school, GCA is available tuition-free to students in grades K-12 across the state.

Among the Class of 2018’s nearly 500 students, 49 will graduate as members of the National Honors Society, and 39 will graduate Magna Cum Laude.

The Class of 2018 reports having been accepted to colleges and universities across the country, including: Agnes Scott College, George Mason University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Howard University, University of Georgia and Washington & Lee University. More than a dozen graduates will enter military service.

State Representative Scott Hilton will deliver the keynote address.

“Congratulations to Georgia Cyber Academy’s Class of 2018,” says Representative Scott Hilton. “These students are prepared to enter the next chapter of their lives, whether they are enrolling in higher education, enlisting in the U.S. military, or entering the workforce. These graduates and their families should feel proud of all they have accomplished.”

GCA students access a robust online curriculum in core subjects, as well as a host of electives. They attend live virtual classes taught by state-licensed teachers.

Luka Kolodzey will serve as the class valedictorian. Luka is 15 years old, and has already earned more than 60 credit hours at Georgia Institute of Technology through the Georgia Dual Enrollment Program. He will enroll at the university full time in the fall to study bio-medical engineering. Mennah Abdelwahab will serve as salutatorian, and plans to attend the University of Georgia with a full scholarship and research grant through the Center of Undergraduate Research Opportunities.

Representative Hilton, as well as school officials and the valedictorian and salutatorian will speak at the graduation ceremony. School leadership, as well as graduating seniors are available for media interviews.
