SOS Brian Kemp Certifies May 22nd Election Results

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Monday, June 4th, 2018

Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp certified the results of the May 22, 2018 General Primary and Nonpartisan Election. Secretary Kemp affirms that all 159 counties have provided the total votes cast to the state and that the returns are a true and correct tabulation. Official results of the local, state, and federal races are available on the Secretary of State’s election night reporting website. Final turnout numbers will be available next week once credit for voting has been applied.

Certification starts the clock for recount requests. There is no automatic recount in Georgia. Under O.C.G.A. § 21-2-495, a recount can be requested by the second-place candidate if the difference in votes between the winning candidate and second-place candidate is not more than one percent of the total votes cast in the race. The second-place candidate has two business days following certification of the results to request the recount.
