Opportunities in cyber are rapidly growing in the region and Aiken Technical College is launching a new academic program this August to help prepare students for a successful career in the industry.
The Cybersecurity Networking Certificate prepares students to successfully prevent, troubleshoot and mitigate security issues on computing devices, said Dr. Steven Simmons, ATC Dean of Business, Computer Technology and Training.
“The demand for IT professionals is on the rise and there is a need for IT professionals to have a strong awareness of cybersecurity,” Simmons states. “This certificate provides a pathway for new professionals into the field and an opportunity for early career professionals to gain additional knowledge and skills.”
The two-semester program consists of six courses taught in a lecture and lab format. Courses include computer forensics, network vulnerability assessment, and operating systems.
“Students with no prior work experience are prepared for entry-level network technician positions,” said Simmons. “Students with existing experience in networking and programming will enhance their awareness of cybersecurity and are prepared to advance in their career.”
The new certificate is the newest addition to the College’s existing information technology programs such as computer technology-programming and networking tracks; network systems management; computer game design; and internet programming.
