IRONMAN 70.3 Augusta Introduces New Bike Course for 2018 Event

Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Wednesday, August 8th, 2018

IRONMAN 70.3 Augusta announced the brand new 2018 bike course. The annual event will be held on Sunday, September 23rd with swim and bike courses staying the same.

The single-loop, 56-mile route, begins at the Boat House home of the Augusta Rowing Club. Athletes will exit downtown Augusta and head into the back country of eastern Georgia. Rolling hills and some technical turns will greet the athletes along the way. Athletes can expect to be tested a few times on the course with some slow inclines and fast downhill descents, but the course also plays to those that like to hammer down with a number of long straightaways. As the athletes near the end of the ride, they'll re-enter downtown Augusta to return back to Transition Area at the Boat House. The full course can be accessed here.

IRONMAN put out a statement regarding the course that says, "IRONMAN does not recommend that anyone train on the racecourse route before race day.  All training is at the athlete’s own risk."

The Augusta Sports Council backs IRONMAN's statement completely. This bike route is designed and intended for the IRONMAN 70.3 Augusta on race day with appropriate police and safety precautions in place. This route is NOT intended to be used without such precautions. If athletes decide to practice the course, they are urged to use EXTREME CAUTION throughout the route and do so at their own risk.
