Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Monday, October 22nd, 2018

The Salvation Army, United Way and Columbia County Community Connections will host a Bridges Out of Poverty workshop on Tuesday, October 23, at the Kroc Center of Augusta from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The Bridges Out of Poverty workshop will inspire creative solutions for those who seek to counter poverty and its impact at all levels. With the framework from this workshop participants will gain a new sense of hope when it comes to the ways that our community can overcome poverty together by redefining poverty and creating a paradigm change.

"The goal of this strategy is to develop ways to build resources, grow employment opportunities, enhance workplace stability, reduce homelessness, increase graduation rates, improve healthcare outcomes, decrease incarceration rates, and provides ministry opportunities for the faith community", said Captain Canning, Augusta Area Commander.

During this workshop participants will examine the four causes of poverty and the three lenses through which poverty is viewed. Participants will leave with new insights and ideas on how small changes made by their organization can create community wide opportunities.
