The Georgia Minority Supplier Development Council awarded “Executive of the Year” to Stuart MacVean, President and CEO of Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, the Department of Energy’s managing and operations contractor at the Savannah River Site.

During its 36th annual Spirit of Alliance Awards event held in Atlanta, Ga., the GMSDC honored companies that have made the most significant contributions to small business development and utilization in the state of Georgia. SRNS was recognized for excellence in support of minority-owned small businesses, competing against several multibillion-dollar corporations including The Coca-Cola Company, Toyota, Delta Air Lines, SunTrust Bank, Southern Company and Cox Communications.

“The SRNS Supply Chain team continues a long history of supporting and working closely with small businesses throughout the Georgia-South Carolina region,” said MacVean. “Not only are these contracts vital to the Site in areas such as staff augmentation and construction support, but it also allows us to support and grow local businesses surrounding the Savannah River Site.”

The Executive of the Year award recognizes a CEO who demonstrates support for minority business development and advocacy of GMSDC programs and initiatives. For SRNS Supply Chain Management,
being an advocate for the small business community included holding 14 conferences, fairs and expos in 2017.

“Our outreach efforts for small businesses enable us to find suppliers that help us add value to our missions, as we all work together to make the world safer,” added MacVean. “It’s our goal to find the right suppliers and facilitate their entrance into our procurement system. We strive to ensure that everyone who is eligible to compete for small business contracts has opportunity to do so.”

Additionally, SRNS Director of Procurement Jay Johnson was recognized as GMSDC’s “Supply Chain
Advocate of the Year,” which honors leaders who advance the quality, growth and development of minority business enterprises. Ownership by minority individuals means that at least 51 percent of the business is owned by minority groups in the United States (e.g., Asian, Black, Hispanic and Native American).

“This is a great honor for our team. I attribute this success to our buyers’ commitment to partner with
great suppliers. We invest in partnering with and developing our small businesses,” added Johnson.

SRNS SCM has strategically invested in building a pipeline of vendor capabilities, which support SRS
and DOE complex missions. In addition, SRNS’ SCM Procurement has awarded more than $77 million to
Georgia minority businesses over the past three years.

SRNS consistently sources MBE participation at national, regional and local outreach events, as well as
hosts supplier visits and conferences to attract qualified MBEs. The SRNS Mentor Protégé Program also
helps develop small businesses by carefully selecting capable suppliers with sound business practices and mentoring them through the SRNS procurement process.
