Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Friday, December 14th, 2018

Film Augusta is proud to partner with First Community Bank for a private screening of The Mule at GTC Riverwatch Cinemas, Friday, December 14, at 6:30 p.m. The media is invited to attend the opening ceremony and to interview the representatives of several locations featured at the conclusion of the movie.

A large portion of The Mule was shot on location in Augusta during the months of June and July 2018. During that time, Film Augusta helped to locate many locations and resources, as well as navigate logistics for the production.

In total, eight Augusta locations are featured in the movie. Locations include Shaw's Sunshine Garden, DoubleTree Hotel, First Community Bank, Augusta Museum of History, Saint Paul's Church, Bethlehem Advent Church, and two private residences: one in the Harrisburg Neighborhood and one off of Central Avenue.

During the time of production, many businesses and locals benefited. More than 100 cast and crew stayed in three area hotels. Among those who benefited, each location received a location fee for the duration of the production. Off-duty Richmond County Sheriff’s deputies were hired for security and traffic logistics. Parking lots were rented for staging areas and supplies were purchased at area stores, positively impacting many local businesses.

In total, The Mule generated an estimated $1.1 million in economic impact in Augusta and, according to Georgia Entertainment News, generated more than $9 million in the state of Georgia.

Film Augusta began working with location managers from the production the first week in April and continued throughout the duration of the production.

“Hosting the production of The Mule in Augusta provided an opportunity to introduce Augusta to key film industry executives, created direct visitors spending and helped promote Augusta as a film destination to others,” said Jennifer Bowen, Film Liaison with Film Augusta. “Film executives commented about the ease of business in Augusta, its warm hospitality, and promised to tell others.”
