Thursday, May 23rd, 2019

In 2006, the Greater Augusta Association of REALTORS® (GAAR) started the President’s Youth Scholarship Award Program to recognize area high school seniors for their accomplishments and award scholarships to alleviate expenses of their college education. Since its inception and including this year’s recipients, the GAAR has awarded $120,000 to local students. The committee selects recipients based on academic achievements, extra-curricular activities, honors, and leadership positions held throughout their high school years.

This year each recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship and will be recognized at a luncheon on Wednesday, June 12, at First Baptist Church of Augusta at noon.  This year’s recipients include the following:

Erica Williams Browne – Cross Creek High School     Mikaila Conley – Burke Co High School

Zarriea Crawford – Richmond Co Tech High School   Christiana Marty – Grovetown High School

Callie Matthews – Lakeside High School                      Sydney Parrish – Greenbrier High School

Huston Rogers – Butler High School                             Iyonna Smith – Westside High School

Joseph Thibodeau – Harlem High School                     Lauren Wallace – Davidson Fine Arts

In addition to the check presentations, Dr. Karla Leeper, Executive Vice President for Operations for Augusta University, will be the guest speaker for the luncheon.

“This an annual program which we are all excited to be able to reward these students for their hard work. In turn, we hope these students will be able to give back to their communities one day as well” said GAAR President, Dennis Smith.  Applications for the 2020 scholarships will be available through all-area high school guidance offices in late 2019.
