USA Cycling Road Closures in Augusta

Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Thursday, May 2nd, 2019

On Sunday, May 12, 2019, the USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Criterium Championship will take place in the heart of downtown Augusta. The race is part of the three-day USA Cycling National Championship. For the safety of the cyclists, deputies from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office will tightly regulate the course.

We understand that closing access around the course will present challenges, and we appreciate your cooperation. It is our hope that the positive economic and public relations impacts of the event on the city of Augusta will allow for a degree of understanding from those affected by the event.

Due to the safety of the cyclists and spectators, all vehicles parked in the following areas must be moved by 2 a.m. Sunday, May 12th. All vehicles left on the following roads of the course on race day will be towed: Broad St. (westbound) from 7th Street to 10th Street; 7th Street from Broad Street to Reynolds Street; 9th Street from Broad Street to Reynolds Street; Macartan Street from Broad Street to Jones Street; and Jones Street from 9th Street to Macartan Street.

It is strongly recommended that individuals park outside of the course if they plan to come and go during the day. Please look for walking access points to the Augusta Common designated by course marshals. Access will only be allowed when the riders’ safety is assured. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE ON OR AROUND THE COURSE UNLESS AUTHORZED. The packs of racers will hit speeds of up to 40 MPH.
