Salvation Army of Augusta Holding Hunger Drive Saturday
Thursday, July 11th, 2019
The Salvation Army of Augusta is asking the community to help restock the Center of Hope’s food pantry at its eighth annual Food 2 Fight Hunger Drive on Saturday.
The event will be held at the Kroger located at 2801 Washington Road in National Hills, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The Salvation Army is seeking donations of nonperishable food items.
While many of the Center of Hope’s clients are overnight guests, others check into the shelter seeking a meal. Meals are served two times a day – usually between 250 to 300 meals every day.
The most needed nonperishable food items include high protein foods, such as canned meats, beans and stews, canned fruit and juice, canned vegetables, cereal, grits, oatmeal and pancake mix, infant formula and baby food and everyday items such as sugar, salt and pepper.
Those who are unable to take items to Kroger can drop off nonperishable donations to the Center of Hope, located at 1384 Greene St., on weekdays between 9 a.m. to noon or between 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monetary contributions can also be made online at SalvationArmyAugusta.org.
