Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Thursday, October 3rd, 2019

The CV Foundry Apartments, LLC in association with the Greater Augusta Arts Council, will commission the creation and installation of one exterior public art sculpture in the new Beacon Station development, located across the street from the Augusta University School of Dentistry on Wrightsboro Road in Augusta, GA. Proposals will be accepted for artwork that is durable, meets safety regulations, can remain installed with minimal maintenance for at least 15 years, and achieves the requested concept goals as outlined in the mission.

Artists who are at least 18 years of age and reside in the Augusta River Region are eligible to submit proposals; those under age 18 must be part of a team led by an adult. All artists/artist teams will be considered regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age or disability. Total budget for the project is $13,000. Application deadline is November 13, 2019.

The mission of this project is to unite Augusta’s rich cultural traditions with an optimistic new future for this newly redeveloped area and welcome visitors into the Laney Walker and Bethlehem Neighborhoods. CV Foundry Apartments seeks to commission an artist/sculptor to design and construct a work of art that will contribute to the positive reinvestment and redevelopment of the emerging Laney Walker/Bethlehem Revitalization Area. The sculpture is intended to support the brand and character of Beacon Station and to enhance awareness of public art throughout Augusta. The public voting on the 3 finalists will coincide with the grand opening of Beacon Station in November 2019.

Proposals for a single, site specific, freestanding sculpture are being considered. This call to artists is open only to individuals and teams of artists and/or design professionals living in the Augusta River Region.

The Greater Augusta Arts Council will host an informational meeting on October 16th to familiarize artist applicants with the project and the proposed site for artwork.  The meeting will be held at the Beacon Station Leasing Office onsite at 1480 Wrightsboro Road, Bldg. #2. Attendance is encouraged, but not mandatory.
