Georgia Power Presents Check to Barnes Career Center
Friday, January 15th, 2021
Richmond County Board of Education members and senior leaders of the Richmond County School System were on hand to accept a $10,000 donation from Georgia Power for the Marion E. Barnes Career Center.
The donation will be used to purchase software and virtual reality headsets for students who complete the safety training course. The software allows students to visit worksites and attempt to complete tasks while providing feedback on any safety violations.
“This donation from Georgia Power is a tremendous investment that will expand the opportunities our students have to succeed,” said Dr. Jamie McCord, principal of the Marion E. Barnes Career Center. “We work to prepare our graduates for careers that support the workforce needs of our community and companies like Georgia Power. The new software will equip our students to complete the OSHA-10 certification and be conscientious employees who contribute to a safe work environment.”
The Marion E. Barnes Career Center is located on the campus of T.W. Josey High School and is open to students from eight area high schools.
