Richmond County Schools Recognized for Advancement Placement Exam Success in 2020

Georgia School Superintendent Richard Woods has recognized a number of Richmond County Schools as 2021 Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Schools. 

Our high school principals, counselors and teachers work to increase the number of students enrolled in and passing AP exams is helping our high school students excel in classes and earn college credit. The impact of these efforts is even greater during the pandemic as students and teachers adjusted to new teaching and learning styles,” says Associate Superintendent of Academic Services Dr. Malinda Cobb. “I am proud to join the state to recognize and applaud these schools and our AP course teachers for going the extra mile for our AP students.”   

The list of schools receiving the recognition are: 

AP Access and Support Schools – (Schools with at least 30 percent of AP exams taken by students who identified themselves as African-American and/or Hispanic and 30 percent of all AP exams earning scores of 3 or higher) A.R. Johnson Health Science and Engineering Magnet School, Hephzibah High School and T. W. Josey High School.   

AP Challenge Schools – (Schools with enrollments of 900 or fewer students and students testing in English, math, science, and social studies) A. R. Johnson Health Science and Engineering Magnet School, G. P. Butler High School, John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School, Lucy C. Laney High School and Westside High School 

AP Schools of Distinction – (Schools with at least 20 percent of the total student population taking AP exams and at least 50 percent of all AP exams earning scores of 3 or higher) John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School 

AP STEM Schools – (Schools with a minimum of five students testing in at least four AP STEM courses (AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, AP Physics C, AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles)) A. R. Johnson Health and Science Engineering Magnet High School, Academy of Richmond County, Cross Creek High School, John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School, Lucy C. Laney High School and Westside High School   

AP STEM Achievement Schools – (AP STEM schools (see above definition) with at least 50 percent of all AP STEM exams earning scores of 3 or higher) John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School
