YMCA’s Pinwheels For Prevention Raises Awareness for Child Abuse Prevention Month

Tuesday, April 13th, 2021

The Family YMCA of Greater Augusta is displaying pinwheels Monday, April 12 to spread awareness about child abuse in the CSRA.

The display at the Aiken County Family YMCA represents 418 substantiated child abuse cases in Aiken and Barnwell counties during 2020. The Wilson Family YMCA display represents 682 cases in Burke, Columbia, McDuffie and Richmond counties in 2020.

“Keeping children safe is a top priority for the Y year-round,” said Catie McCauley, chief operating officer at the Family YMCA of Greater Augusta.

The Family Y is also partnering with Ys across Georgia, including Athens YMCA, to spread awareness about child abuse prevention through four Y Talks centered around protecting children. The 50-minute sessions are open to the public at no cost. Topics include Child Sex Trafficking, Cyber Safety and more. Register for a session or lean more at thefamilyy.org/child-abuse-prevention.
