RCSS and Sheriff’s Office Partner to Support Students

The Richmond County School System and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office are partnering to support students who experience traumatic events.

The Handle With Care program, first implemented in West Virginia in 2013, provides resources during the school day to students who have been exposed to crime, violence, or abuse.

Dr. Aronica Gloster, Director of Student Services, explains how Handle With Care works. “When a law enforcement officer responds to an incident where a child is involved as a victim or witness, the officer will notify us and will inform us to ‘handle with care.’ We will contact the child’s school and trauma sensitive support will be provided to the child to help them feel safe.”
