Richmond County School System Releases Video to Explain Lower Millage Rate to Property Owners

Staff Report

Monday, August 8th, 2022

The Richmond County School System released a video explaining the millage rate process. On Thursday, July 28, school system leaders recommended board members adopt a millage rate of 17.650 mills. The recommended rate is 1.662 mills lower than the 19.312 mills set last year.

Although the millage rate is decreasing, it will not be low enough to reach the full roll back rate of 16.821 mills. State law requires the school system to advertise any rate set higher than the roll back as a tax increase because the school system will collect more revenue than last year.

Setting millage rates can be complex and the school system video helps explain the FY2023 millage rate process and how the school system uses tax revenue to support student learning and achievement. The video can be accessed here: https://rcboe.info/millageratevideo.
