Goodwill, Golden Harvest Food Bank Announce Major Partnership

Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia and the CSRA and Golden Harvest Food Bank, two of the larger charitable organizations serving the CSRA and beyond, on Thursday, April 16, announced a historic partnership that is expected to produce significant benefits for the community and those assisted by both agencies.

With the agreement, donors accustomed to the convenience of Goodwill’s five CSRA drive-through donation centers now also will be able to drop off non-perishable food donations for Golden Harvest .

 “This exciting new partnership with Golden Harvest complements both our missions by taking advantage of economies of scale that the two organizations bring, literally, to the table,” said James K. Stiff, President of Goodwill. “We’re proud at Goodwill to be offer the use of our convenient donation facilities to help Golden Harvest in its mission of feeding the hungry.”

In addition to clothing, small appliances and household items, donors now may also deliver non-perishable food for Golden Harvest at Goodwill donation centers located at 3179 Washington Road, 655 NW Frontage Road and 3120 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta; 4074 Washington Road, Martinez; and 1015 Pine Log Road, Aiken. Golden Harvest is placing bins inside each location, and Goodwill attendants are available to assist donors. 

Goodwill and Golden Harvest are both deeply committed to collaboration with other community organizations. Golden Harvest Food Bank partners with more than 250 organizations in its 30-county service territory, including local hunger relief organizations such as the Salvation Army, Catholic Social Services, Downtown Cooperative Church Ministries, ACTS, Columbia County Cares, United Way of Aiken, First Baptist Church Augusta, Augusta Rescue Mission, Broad Street Ministry Center and Mercy Ministries. In addition, Goodwill works with other non-profit organizations in the CSRA including the Augusta Warrior Project, the Salvation Army, the Family Y, South Carolina Commission for the Blind, Shepeard Community Blood Center, Girl Scouts, Augusta Locally Grown, Tri-Development, Habitat for Humanity, Megiddo Dream Station and Turn Back the Block.

Golden Harvest Executive Director Travis McNeal praised the new partnership with Goodwill. “I am very encouraged to see Golden Harvest and Goodwill embarking on a relationship that will bolster community enthusiasm and confidence as our organizations work together to enrich the lives of others in need,” he said.

This announcement takes place during National Volunteer Week, highlighting the many volunteers who serve Goodwill and Golden Harvest. Volunteers from both agencies are coordinating a food drive at Goodwill’s west Augusta campus in conjunction with the agreement.
