Pollock Company has been part of the Augusta professional landscape for half a century, and that’s quite a feat when landscapes shed their skin so often, leaving less adaptable businesses in ruins.  It all started in 1965 when Edwin B. Pollock went from branch manager for Olivetti-Underwood one day to owner of his own company the next.

“When they (Olivetti-Underwood) wanted to transfer him to another office, he convinced them to sell the Augusta office to him,” says Pollock Company President R. Joseph Pollock (Joe).

What began in a very different time has continued thriving into the current one. Pollock Company has been a part of one of the most notoriously changeful industries in the world – technology – but it has remained steadfast in providing products that customers both want and need.

“The industry is constantly changing and evolving,” Pollock says. “In 50 years, we have seen mechanical adding machines and typewriters evolve into the multifunctional devices used in offices today.  What has not changed is the need for accountability and outstanding customer service, all delivered on a personal level.”

In others words, the more some things change, the more others stay the same. Pollock believes both consistency and offering the “best of the best” products is key to attracting and keeping customers, but that’s not the only thing. Pollock Company prefers to be more than just a “vendor” to customers. They consider themselves partners. Pollock says they want to be known in the community for doing the right thing and applying the golden rule to both employees and customers.

“I would consider the greatest reward I have had personally, regarding Pollock Company, is seeing the culture of our employees, who take what we do very seriously,” he says. “At the same time, however, we encourage a balance of being the best at what they do, as well as family relationships, community involvement, and other interests.”

Pollock Company has been involved in over 75 non-profits over the last year, such as the American Red Cross and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Pollock Company will host a technology expo at the Augusta Marriott Convention Center in May. The show will feature 3D printing, new solutions software, advances in mailing equipment, and high-end production printing. The expo will not only showcase the newest and best; there’s also an ulterior motive to the show.

“This May is also our 50th year, which will be our best year ever.  We want to thank our customers and long-term employees for this success and allowing us to be a partner with them, rather than a vendor,” he says.

Joe Pollock and his wife, Beth, are life-long Augusta natives who believe Augusta is a great place to raise a family. They have five children – three daughters and two sons – all in the Augusta area. Speaking of family, sons Mark and Edwin will take the reins of the company sometime in the next few years. A company with 50 years of experience, three generations of leaders, and a proven commitment to employees, customers and community – now that’s something to celebrate.

Pollock Company’s 50th Anniversary Technology Expo will take place May 12th - 13th from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Additional information about the expo and Pollock Company can be found at pollockcompany.com
