United Way of the CSRA hosted their first virtual Campaign Kickoff Event, highlighting COVID-19 impact and their Leading Families Forward initiative which was launched last Fall.

The Kickoff was presented through the generosity of Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, Publix Super Markets, Doctor’s Hospital, Southern Nuclear Operating Company, ADP, Electrolux, Georgia Power, and University Health Care System. Jennie Montgomery and Brad Means of WJBF News Channel 6 presided over the virtual event.

Senior Director of Contracts at Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, Jay Johnson, spoke to the company’s commitment to the community. He expressed the company’s dedication to helping neighbors in need, saying that even though a third of their workforce is teleworking, and the conditions for fundraising are not favorable, “I found a team that was energized and committed to go above and beyond this year, because the need is above and beyond.”

Brittany Burnett, President & CEO of United Way of the CSRA, detailed United Way’s COVID-19 response through the CSRA COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund launched with the Community Foundation for the CSRA, as well as the growing needs the community faces now and beyond the pandemic. Jennie Montgomery walked the audience through the incredible COVID-19 response work from United Way and their partner agencies. She highlighted the fact that over the past five months, United Way’s 2-1-1 helpline has received an additional 1,300 calls from residents who need assistance with basic needs, to partner agencies providing food to hungry families, and other support to residents in need.

United Way’s 2020 Board Chair, Jordan Pierce, introduced United Way’s new Campaign Video, showcasing local community leaders and supporters. The video spotlighted COVID-19 impact and community needs, including food and housing insecurity, medical, mental health, child care services and more throughout United Way of the CSRA’s 12-county region.

Pierce also announced this year’s campaign goal of $2,170,000, noting, “this is the year to think outside of the box more than ever before. Some of you are working from home, are on the manufacturing floor, at a bank, grocery store, or classroom. No matter where you are, we need you. No matter how big or small, your gift matters, and will help Lead Families Forward.”
