GRU Cancer Center Director to Speak on “Facing Cancer” at Chamber’s Women in Business Luncheon

Dr. Amy Lowery-Allison, Director of Psycho-Social Oncology Services for the GRU Cancer Center, will be the keynote speaker at the February 16th Women in Business Luncheon. Dr. Lowery-Allison’s talk, entitled “Facing Cancer: You and Your Support Network”, will focus on the challenges of facing cancer, and how individuals and the community can encourage and positively impact the way forward. Tickets are $30 for chamber members, $40 for non-members and can be purchased online at AugustaMetroChamber.com. The luncheon will be held at the Legends Club and begins promptly at 11:30 a.m.

Dr. Lowery-Allison is a licensed clinical psychologist, behavioral sleep specialist, and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Health Behavior at Augusta University. Dr. Lowery-Allison earned a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Springfield College, a doctorate in clinical psychology from Alliant International University-San Diego, and served as Chief of the NCI-funded postdoctoral fellowship in Psychosocial Palliative and Community Research in Cancer in the Department of Psychiatry at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. She was previously an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology-Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh, and was the director of the Cancer Sleep Clinic at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.

She has extensive clinical and research experience in symptom management for cancer patients and survivors, particularly, sleep, pain, depression and anxiety, and has received numerous awards for her work. With over 10 years of counseling experience, she has provided clinical care to patients and families at several leading cancer centers across the country. Dr. Lowery-Allison loves to travel with her husband, Jeff, and has gone skydiving twice.
