Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Friday, October 21st, 2016

The Technology Association of Georgia, the state’s leading association dedicated to the promotion and economic advancement of Georgia’s technology industry, is seeking nominations for the Health Startup Innovation Award at its 2016 Health Tech Startup Expo, hosted by the Clinical and Digital Health Sciences department in the College of Allied Health Sciences at Augusta University. The Health Tech Startup Expo aims to inspire new health technology startup ventures in Augusta. Join us November 10th at Augusta University to hear from an exciting keynote speaker and panelists discuss how to create a startup company, current challenges that a startup faces, and how to leverage other organizations to run a successful health technology startup.

Individuals from start-ups, growth-stage companies, hospitals, clinics, and practices which are developing new technologies or uses for technology are eligible for the award. Individuals may self-apply or nominate a company that is using health IT in innovative ways. Winning companies will receive a spotlight at the Health Tech Startup Expo.

All applications and nominations must be received by 5 PM EST, Monday, October 24, 2016. Finalists will be contacted by a committee member to gather additional information. Finalists will be announced in late-October, 2016.  Finalists may be asked to present to the committee the last week in October, 2016.  Winner will be announced at the Expo November 10, 2016.

Because collaboration is often a central part of innovation, applicants should include all partners involved with their technology or approach. Innovation can occur anywhere, so TAG seeks examples at every level, from colleges to large enterprises, from single physician practices to healthcare delivery systems, from nonprofits and government entities to private payers.

A team of health IT pros will evaluate the entries and select semi-finalists. Each semi-finalist will be interviewed and their technology researched, with the Innovation Committee making a final decision based upon such factors as magnitude of the benefits, current and future impact, quality of care, impact on workflow, etc.

Interested individuals should apply online at http://bit.ly/healthnominations.
