USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships to Impact Traffic

The Augusta Sports Council announces information regarding the USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships route and traffic. Over 1,000 athletes are expected to compete for national championships in road, individual time trial and criterium disciplines. Traffic conditions will be impacted on area roads in Columbia County on Thursday, June 1st during the Time Trial Course and Downtown Augusta on June 4th during the Criterium Course.

The Augusta Sports Council, along with the Columbia County Convention & Visitors Bureau and Fort Gordon MWR are excited to welcome thousands of friends, families and media representatives to our community for this event. If you find yourself driving on the route, or near impacted areas, we request you proceed with extreme caution. Please plan ahead for alternative routes if needed.

Time Trial Course (Thursday, June 1st in Columbia County):

The USA Cycling National Time Trial Championship will run on an out-and-back course that utilizes US-221 (Clarks Hill Rd.) in South Carolina and Georgia. The "long" course will cross Washington Road and turn onto Cobbham Road. The "long" course will cross Thurmond Dam into Georgia. At Washington Road, the course will veer right then turn left onto Cobbham Road Riders will turn around at Ray Owens Road before proceeding back to the finish line at Thurmond Dam.

The "short" course will NOT cross Washington Road

A "run-off" lane will be established to allow riders to slow down and continue across the dam to the parking area

The turn-around will be on US-221 north of Washington Road (SR-150)

Time Trial Timeline:

5 a.m. - Thurmond Dam closed to non-race traffic

7:30 a.m. - US-221 and Cobbham Road closed to non-race traffic

8 a.m. - Race Start

2 p.m. - Projected Re-Opening of Cobbham Road

6 p.m. - Projected Re-Opening of US-221

6:30 p.m. - Awards at Wild Wing Cafe

Course Safety:

Law enforcement from McCormick County, SC, Columbia County, GA and the Army COE will manage vehicle traffic

Volunteer course marshals will be positioned at parking lots and side streets

Through traffic will not be allowed during race hours, residents will be assisted to and from their roads
US-221, from SC-28 to Washington Road will be closed to non-race traffic from 5 a.m. - approximately 6 p.m.

Traffic will be detoured around Pollards Corner via US-221 (Appling-Harlem Way), Yelton Road, Ray Owens Road and Washington Road from 7:30 a.m. - approximately 2 p.m. Clarks Hill Road will reopen at approximately 6 p.m
 
Criterium Course (Sunday, June 4th in Downtown Augusta):

NO PARKING on the course route after 2 a.m. on Sunday. All vehicles must be moved by 3 a.m. Vehicle left inside the course route will be towed to Broad Street and 12th Street.

NO PARKING:

Broad Street (eastbound) between 8th Street and 11th Street

11th Street from Broad Street to Greene Street

9th Street between Greene Street and Ellis Street

Greene Street (westbound) between 8th Street and 11th Street

8th Street between Broad Street and Ellis Street

Ellis Street from 8th Street and 9th Street

Criterium Course:

The start line will be positioned on 937 Greene Street in front of the AT&T Building

The course runs counter-clockwise

Beginning on Greene Street riders will proceed EAST and turn left at 9th Street. Course then turns right on Ellis, left on 8th and left on Broad. Continue on Broad Street, turn left onto 11th Street and back to Greene Street

For your safety, please only cross race course at designated spots. Racers will be reaching high speeds, please exercise caution at all times.
