Augusta University has named a new vice president for academic and faculty affairs.

Dr. Kathy Browder, senior associate dean and associate dean of Academic and Student Affairs in the College of Health and Human Services at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, will assume the job, effective Aug. 14.

Browder will serve as a member of the provost’s administrative team, where she will work closely with vice presidents, deans and department heads to develop and advance the strategic academic mission of the university, according to the college. Along her duties will be a focus on academic programs and student success, as well as administrative oversight of faculty affairs and development, teaching excellence, the libraries and the Registrar’s Office.

“We are excited to welcome Kathy – an accomplished academic leader with a demonstrated ability to build and enhance the reputation of academic programs and to lead faculty development initiatives, to include promotion and tenure,” Dr. Gretchen Caughman, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, said in a news release. “She will work closely with our deans and other academic leadership to ensure our policies, programs and practices support the highest level of success for both our students and our faculty.”

At UNC Wilmington, Browder’s responsibilities included managing the college’s program expansion efforts and developing interprofessional programs and curricula. In addition, she helped to increase the university’s budget by approximately $16 million through the launch of the Online Accelerated Program and to implement the CHHS Service Team Model, a hybrid support model incorporating a more modern concept of shared services, the release stated.

Browder has over 25 years of experience in higher education, an biomechanist who has published and presented more than 75 papers and received more than $500,000 in grant awards for her teaching and research activities.
