Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Tuesday, August 29th, 2017

The Apartment Association of Greater Augusta hosts a Certified Apartment Manager designation course this October.

The nationally recognized CAM designation gives property managers the opportunity to advance their skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their field.

Classes take place Oct. 23 to 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants must attend all five days to complete the course.

The CAM course includes industry essentials, financial management, marketing, property maintenance, risk management, legal responsibilities, human resource management, and resident experience, and a final exam. Classroom materials, books, instruction, national fees, testing, breakfast and lunch will be provided to the students for all class days.

Registration and final payment is due by Oct. 6.

“In 2008 I decided to earn my CAM designation to better myself and my career,” said Monica Sommers, community manager of The Haven at Reed Creek. “I feel that earning this designation helps me stand out amongst my peers. It not only taught me a new way to look at the apartment industry but it forces me to stay up to date on my education.”

This designation course is recommended for time-challenged managers and assistant managers, seasoned managers wanting to quickly enhance their experience with a designation, new managers and assistant managers looking for advancement, and job seekers wishing to boost their resumes and experience.

“The CAM class was extremely valuable,” said Leah McKenzie, regional property manager of ATC Development. “Although I had 14 years of experience in the industry prior to taking the class, I still learned so much valuable information and different thought processes. I would recommend this class to anyone who is serious about progressing in their property management career.”

Forty hours of coursework plus a minimum of 12 months of on-site experience is required before the exam for certification can be taken. All exam requirements must be met within 12 months of declaring candidacy.
