Two Augusta-area entrepreneurs each won $1,000 recently at the latest “pitch contest” designed to present business ideas to likely investors.

Daniel Scheiner won the Judge’s Choice Award and Jonathan Larry won the People’s Choice Award during IdeaFame Live, cohosted by the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce and the Fort Gordon Cyber District at the North Augusta Municipal Building.

Larry pitched Upliff, a social network to share stories and events designed to uplift the human spirit.

“The IdeaFame event was a great opportunity for entrepreneurs and startups to share who they are and what they do,” he said.

“So many innovative ideas were pitched, and I’m excited to be a part of the rapidly growing startup scene in the Fort Gordon Cyber District! I would encourage aspiring entrepreneurs to get involved. The resources to help make your idea a reality are here.”

Scheiner is a co-founder of SkyRaider Aeronautics, a company that offers “precision agricultural services” – using drones to offer 3-D mapping, crop assessments and spectral soil and plant analysis for farmers.

“It is wonderful to see the opportunities for innovators and startups come to the Augusta region, it is great to see the turn out and be a part of these fantastic events,” he said.

Each IdeaFame Live contestant was given 60 seconds to pitch an idea without the use of presentations or notes. The Judge’s Choice award was determined by a panel of judges; the People’s Choice award was determined by attendees, including angel investors and business leaders.

The event’s panel of judges included North Augusta Mayor Bob Pettit, City Administrator Todd Glover and Chris Garrison, entrepreneur and owner of the pizza restaurant Your Pie.

“The Fort Gordon Cyber District offers a wealth of talent, entrepreneurship and opportunity,” said Tom Clark, executive director of the Alliance for Fort Gordon. “We congratulate SkyRaider and are proud to support events that foster and demonstrate the innovative concepts produced by the talented residents of this area.”

The Cyber District encompasses Richmond, Columbia, Burke, McDuffie and Lincoln counties in Georgia, and Aiken and Edgefield counties in South Carolina.

The Alliance is a nonprofit organization that connects and builds military and community links to foster partnership and economic development efforts in the Augusta area’s expanding technology and cybersecurity sectors.
