Jay Markwalter Accepts Position as GACVB Executive Director

Jay Markwalter, Director of Sales for the Augusta Convention and Visitors Bureau, has accepted a new position as the Executive Director of the Georgia Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus. The GACVB, currently based out of Savannah, will be relocating to Augusta making the statewide destination marketing association for Georgia’s tourism industry headquartered in Augusta, GA.
 
Markwalter has served in the Destination Marketing Organization industry for over 15 years, proving himself to be a leader in tourism-based economic development. In his new role, Markwalter will lead GACVB’s mission to serve as the unified voice for Georgia’s tourism industry.
 
Markwalter will finish out his three-and-a-half-year tenure at the ACVB on April 11th, before beginning his new role on April 16th.
 
Markwalter received his GACVB Leadership Excellence Certification and is a graduate of both Leadership Augusta and Leadership Georgia. Markwalter has served on the GACVB Board of Directors since 2013, currently as President, and, by Governor appointment, serves on the Georgia Tourism Foundation Board. He is recognized as a certified Travel and Tourism Marketing Professional by the Southeast Tourism Society. Markwalter is a Savannah native and a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration, Marketing.
