Augusta Welcomes the Southeastern Archaeological Conference

Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Tuesday, November 13th, 2018

The Southeastern Archeological Conference will host its 75th Annual Meeting in Augusta from November 15-17, 2018. The meeting will be held at the Marriott Convention Center in downtown Augusta to discuss current archeological research and disseminate information about archeology in the Southeastern US.

SEAC has been meeting annually since 1938 (with the exception of WWII). Over the decades, it has grown from less than 50 members to over 1,000. Between 600 and 700 members attend the annual meeting, which is held in a different city and state throughout the Southeastern US every November.

Throughout the course of the three-day conference, there will be 350 short, professional presentations on various aspects of archaeological research throughout the Southeast. These presentations will be given by professors, research archaeologists, and graduate students. A day-long series of presentations on Saturday, November 17 will focus specifically on archeological discoveries in Georgia. This session is sponsored by the Society for Georgia Archaeology, who will also be featuring ABBY the ArchaeoBus on Thursday, November 15 from 9a.m. to 5p.m. outside of the Marriott. The ArchaeoBus is a travelling emissary, bringing dynamic, interactive educational programs about archaeology to K-12 students, families, and adults of all ages.

Registration for the professional conference is $145.00, however, guest registration for the Society for Georgia Archaeology session on Saturday is only $25.00. ABBY the ArchaeoBus is free and open to the public.
