The former 100,000 square foot Kmart, located less than a mile from the former Regency Mall, sits at the intersection of Gordon Highway and Deans Bridge Road. On January 25th, U-Haul, the national moving equipment and storage rental company, acquired the building with plans to develop a new retail and self-storage facility. Davis Beman and his team brokered the deal on behalf of the former owner.

The building, located at 1647 Gordon Highway, sits at the center of the Augusta’s “Cyber Corridor,” the thoroughfare from Fort Gordon, the area’s largest employer, to Downtown Augusta, the city’s central business district. Mayor Hardie Davis and other government officials have worked tirelessly to promote the area South of Gordon Highway (or #SOGO), as a target for new investments. "U-Haul is a welcome addition to the economic footprint of the Gordon Highway corridor. This location places U-Haul at the heart of our business and residential growth plans. Their decision to invest in South Augusta supports the vision for jobs, training and growth across Augusta."  - says Mayor Hardie Davis, Jr.

With the addition of a national retailer in the SOGO area, the revitalization of South Augusta continues. In addition to this transaction, the remaining attached retail center at 1633 Gordon Highway is also now available for purchase through our agent, Ben Harrison. This additional space would be an excellent opportunity for small businesses to benefit from proximity to a large national retailer, as well as continuing efforts to bring retail businesses to SOGO.
