Doctors Hospital of Augusta Celebrates First “529 Day Baby” Born with $1,529 Contribution to a Path2College 529 Plan Account

Staff Report From Augusta CEO

While May 29 may not seem like a day to celebrate, for the Brown family, there were two reasons—the birth of their nine-pound five-ounce baby girl, Mia, and for winning a college savings contribution for Mia before she was even 24 hours old.

“This is a pleasant surprise.  We are excited to grow our family and are blessed to welcome Mia with a head start on her college savings plan,” said Scott and Caitlin Brown, Mia’s parents.

Doctors Hospital of Augusta once again partnered with the state of Georgia’s Path2College 529 Plan to raise awareness of the importance of saving for college by awarding the first baby born on May 29th at the hospital with a $1,529 college savings contribution.

“State-sponsored college savings plans across the country celebrate May 29, or 5/29, and work to educate families in their respective states about the importance of saving for college and the benefits of saving in 529 plans.” said Caylee Noggle, President of the Georgia Student Finance Commission, which partners with the Office of the State Treasurer to administer the Path2College 529 Plan for the state of Georgia. “If we can reach just a small number of Georgia families and inspire them to begin saving early, then we have helped create a more solid financial and educational foundation for those children.”

This is the fifth year the Path2College 529 Plan has partnered with Doctors Hospital of Augusta to award a college savings account to a “529 Day Baby.”

“We are honored when families choose us to share their special moments and are glad to partner with Path2College to provide a jumpstart toward a bright future for one of our babies,” said Donna Riordan, Director of Women’s Services at Doctors Hospital.
