Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Thursday, September 12th, 2019

Doctors Hospital Trauma Services Team is offering a free “Stop the Bleed” course to teach simple life saving techniques to nonmedical responders.

“Accidents can happen anywhere and knowing a few simple steps can help save a life,” said Dr. Christopher Hogan, Medical Director of Trauma Services at Doctors Hospital. “Nonmedical bystanders can use the techniques taught in this training to control bleeding until medical help arrives,” Hogan added.

The “Stop the Bleed” course will include a formal training presentation and hands on training to practice applying direct pressure, wound packing and tourniquet use techniques to stop bleeding.  The course, taught by designated trauma centers across Georgia, specifically educates nonmedical audiences to act as immediate responders until first responders arrive at the scene.

Doctors Hospital was verified as a Level II Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma in 2018. Since that time, the hospital has committed to educate school, church and other community groups about Stop the Bleed and Injury Prevention.

Participants completing the course will receive a certificate of completion. This class is free, advanced registration is required.

WHEN: Wednesday, September 18 from 5:00pm – 7:00 pm
