Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Wednesday, October 9th, 2019

Columbia County School District Superintendent, Dr. Sandra Carraway, and Doctors Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Doug Welch, will meet tomorrow for a signing ceremony to renew a school affiliation agreement extending a clinical education partnership for two years.

The partnership provides for an on-site clinical learning experience for up to 350 students enrolled in Allied Health, Patient Care, Sports Medicine, Therapeutic Services and Community Health programs at Columbia County High Schools each year. Columbia County Schools and Doctors Hospital have benefitted from this relationship for more than ten years.

“This partnership helps expose the next generation of healthcare providers to a variety of healthcare professions,” says Doug Welch, Doctors Hospital CEO. “We know students have experience that lends well to the expanding use of technology as a tool for healing and see this partnership as an investment in the future of healthcare,” Welch adds.

Welch and Carraway will be joined by students who will participate in clinical rotations at Doctors Hospital and clinical supervisors of the students from the school and at the hospital.
