This fall, Augusta University welcomed its largest first-time, full-time freshman cohort in the university’s history.

A record-breaking 1,084 full-time freshmen have enrolled at AU, making this the sixth consecutive year the university has experienced an uptick in freshman enrollment. This group also includes the university’s largest number of first-generation college students, with a more than 7% jump from last year.

“This fall’s enrollment figures not only reflect the increase in the number of students on campus but also represent our commitment to attracting the best students to our university,” said Dr. Susan Davies, vice president for enrollment and student affairs. “We are proud of our campuses’ increasingly diverse and academically talented student body, and we will continue to create a supportive environment that positions our students for success.”

In addition to being the university’s largest incoming freshman cohort, more than 50% of the class of 2023 are not from the Augusta area, and over half are students of color.

This is also the fifth consecutive year AU has welcomed its most academically qualified freshmen.

The youngest freshman is a 15-year-old student in the Lucy C. Laney High School Early College Academy, and the student attending from the farthest hometown comes from Green Bay, Wisconsin, more than 1,000 miles away. See more interesting facts about AU’s freshman class.

The university’s total enrollment for fall 2019 stands at 9,274 with 5,605 undergraduates, 1,749 graduate students, 1,297 professional students and 623 post-professional students.
