Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Wednesday, February 26th, 2020

Columbia County kicks off a full-body health initiative!

Presented by REC TEC Grills, this initiative will offer safe walking spaces in local parks, Move it Monday walking groups, FREE Weekend Workouts, a Foods of the Month program supported by a daily blog and weekend cooking demos, and brand new RFID tracking technology which will give MOVE members the opportunity to check in at each activity and earn monthly incentive prizes.

Move it Mondays will welcome local families and seniors to the MOVEment by establishing weekly walking groups, kicking off in April – National Move More Month.

Local business owners are invited to join these groups for walking meetings on Mondays, allowing them to cash in on the known benefits of such meetings - increased creativity, productivity, and honest exchanges between colleagues.

Weekend Workouts will be hosted by Community Events and led by a trained instructor every Saturday, rotating between the Plaza and Gateway Park. Participation will be completely FREE. This program is set to kick off on April 4, 2020 along with the first Evans Market at the Plaza.

MOVE Columbia County will focus not only on getting our citizens out and moving but also on offering healthy eating resources through the incorporation of cooking demonstrations at Spring & Fall Markets & a Foods of the Month program, supported by a daily blog which can be found at www.experiencecolumbiacounty.com

Participants in MOVE will earn monthly incentives for check-ins and will be invited to celebrate with us at the Glow in the Park grand finale event and 5k on October 10, 2020.

Move it Monday programs will be held each week from 9am until 10am at a Columbia County park.

Weekend Workouts are planned for Saturdays from 9am until 10am. Participants can also earn points for “free walking” at parks with RFID scanners. First-round scanners are planned for Evans Towne Center Park, Memorial Gardens Park, and the brand NEW Gateway Park in Grovetown.
