Great Augusta Cleanup Program and Cleanup at Twiggs Street

Staff Report

Friday, June 19th, 2020

We are pleased to announce that our Clean Up Programs have resumed. We invite our Augusta community to participate by calling our office at 706.312.4125 and applying at least 14 days before their planned neighborhood cleanup date. We’ll provide free dumpster services and supplies on a first come, first serve basis.

Additionally, we need volunteers for our next litter clean up at Twiggs Street between Laney Walker Blvd. and James Brown Blvd. Roundabout on June 27th. Visit our event website to sign up.

Last year, 227 volunteers participated in this program cleaning and beautifying different areas of our community. However, we still have a lot of work to do. According to our most recent litter index study, Augusta scores an average of 3 out of 4. This means that we are a highly littered community. “We look forward to supporting our neighborhood cleanup initiatives and hosting education events on environmental conservation and proper recycling. Check out the calendar on our website for a complete list of upcoming events.” says Edkesha Anderson, Keep Augusta Beautiful Program Manager.

The Great Augusta Clean Up is part of a nationwide initiative where an estimated 15,000 communities and more than 550,000 volunteers improve and beautify their community environments through litter cleanup, greening, education and recycling.
