Hawk's Gully is on the ninth section of the canal. This area is a natural water source, that prior to the canal being dug, went straight back into the Savannah River at what is now 15th St. When the canal was dug in 1845, Hawks Gully was turned into a return for the canal to return back to the river through the third level. Today it is a bulkhead gate for flood control for the Augusta Canal.
