The Augusta Rowing Club has announced that the 24th annual Head of the South (HOTS) Regatta rescheduled for November 20-21, 2020 as been canceled due to effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the third largest one-day regatta in the US, the 2019 regatta consisted of 750 boat entries, over 2,000 athletes from the east coast, and had an economic impact of $863,358.60 in the Augusta River Region.

The regatta was moved to a later date this year due to the new date of The Masters Tournament but the cancellation was "mainly due to the Covid Pandemic that caused many high schools and colleges to cancel their fall club sports. We just would not have the participants to make running the regatta viable this year," says Regatta Director Tim Jannik.

The Augusta Rowing Club is currently looking at a virtual option for this year but plans to host the Head of the South Regatta in person in 2021. In addition, the club plans to host two sprint regattas at the newly renovated Langley Pond and continue attracting northern crews for spring training beginning in March.
