Heritage Academy Breaks Ground on Early Learning Academy
Thursday, October 15th, 2020
Heritage Academy broke ground on their Heritage Early Learning Academy at 10AM on Wednesday, October 14th, 2020 (326 Greene St., Augusta, GA 30901). The new 1100 square foot center will serve children from just six weeks to four years old and will be accepting new students beginning in spring of 2021.
The need for an early learning academy in the area is great. In January of 2020, Brandeis University released their “Child Opportunity Index 2.0.” This ranked Augusta, Georgia, as 6th from the bottom in the nation in terms of children’s opportunity to thrive. These are rated in domains such as education, health and environmental factors, and social and economic development. The building of the early learning academy could not be more timely.
The capital campaign for the academy (and gymnasium) was $5 million. After several pledges, the largest gift came from the estate of W. Rodger Giles, a local commercial real estate developer who had a lifelong desire to improve the lives of all children and believed in service to one’s community.
