Freedom Park Elementary School has been named one of seven 2020-21 Military Flagship Schools by the Georgia Department of Education. The award is presented to schools that provide a supportive environment for military students and families. Freedom Park is located on Fort Gordon with 95 percent of the students having a military connection.
State School Superintendent Richard Woods says, “As someone who grew up in a military family myself, it is a joy to honor these seven schools for going above and beyond to serve and support military children."
“Freedom Park School has the distinct pleasure of providing a quality education and wraparound support to our students. We are aware of the sacrifices our military families make and are truly blessed to have the opportunity to serve those who serve us,” says the school principal, Dr. Titania Singh.
To support military students and families, Freedom Park offers a monthly student orientation, livestreams honors programs so deployed family members have the opportunity to participate and provides specific counseling services. Freedom Park counselors established a support group for students whose parents are deployed. The school also works with military units and Military and Family Life Counselors to ensure students remain connected to services available through Fort Gordon and have resources to support them as parents deploy and return from deployment.
“Success is better when its shared. We would like to thank our families for their unwavering support of the faculty and staff of Freedom Park School. There is truly no success without their dedication to partnership in education,” Dr. Singh added.
