Chris Miller, a certified health care facility manager with more than 30 years of experience, has been promoted to assistant vice president for Facilities Services at Augusta University Health System, effective March 1. He formerly served as the director of Facilities Support Services, a position he held since 2010.

In this new role, Miller will be responsible for the management of daily facilities operations for the health system, which includes about 2.8 million square feet of structures and grounds, as well as oversight of Facilities Support Services, Environmental Services, Food and Nutrition Services, Security, Project Design and Management and Patient Transport Services. He also serves as executive sponsor for the Environment of Care Committee, helping to establish and maintain a health center environment that is functionally safe for all patients, guests and care teams.

Miller, who joined the health system in 2000, began as a facility expediter and served in progressively responsible roles, including Facility Operations manager and the director position, where he led efforts to improve energy efficiency across the health system, earning Augusta University Medical Center the prestigious Energy Star certification in 2012 and again from 2015 through 2020, the only hospital in Georgia with this designation.

Miller earned a Family Choice Award in 2014 at AU Health for demonstrating the values of Patient- and Family-Centered Care and an Ambassador Award in 2020 for sustaining and growing the practice of PFCC. In addition to his health system responsibilities, Miller served as interim director of Facilities for Augusta University in 2011 and 2015, assisting in the recruitment process during both vacancies.

Miller began his career at the Medical College of Georgia in 1988, where he served as a plumbing mechanic until 1997 and as a building maintenance supervisor through 2000. He earned a certificate in mechanical maintenance from Augusta Technical College in 1994 and holds many other professional credentials and certifications.

He is a member of the Georgia Plumbers Trade Association, the Georgia Rural Water Association, American Society of Healthcare Engineers and the United States Green Building Council. Miller also serves as a board member for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Augusta, a home away from home for Children’s Hospital of Georgia families.
